A SAFE HAVEN FOR SURVIVORS

In 2024, Safe Haven of Pender provided life-changing support to hundreds of individuals impacted by domestic violence. A total of 433 clients were served throughout the year, with 110 individuals finding refuge in the shelter. The organization remained a vital first point of contact, responding to more than 1,500 crisis calls, texts, emails, and social media messages. Through group empowerment sessions, including both adult and child-focused meetings, Safe Haven continued its mission of offering not only safety, but healing, growth, and community.
The organization runs two thrift stores, both located in Coastline Station Shopping Center (16406 Hwy. 17 N) in Hampstead—Safe Haven Thrift Store and Haven Home—which help support its services with unrestricted funds. Donations and volunteers keep these vital programs running.
“Our thrift store volunteers and generous donors are an integral part of Safe Haven’s mission,” said Dr. Tracey D. Ray, Executive Director at Safe Haven of Pender. “Every item donated, and every volunteer hour directly supports survivors on their journey to safety and stability. Proceeds from our stores fund critical services, and survivors shop free of charge for clothing and essentials—ensuring they can rebuild with dignity and hope.”
Safe Haven also partners with local landlords through the Safe at Home Rapid Rehousing Program, currently in Duplin County, and the Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program in Pender, to provide permanent supportive housing and other needs.
