Blue Water Candy was started by Jodie and Terry Gay in Hampstead. Jodie, a commercial fisherman, started the company at the family’s kitchen table. Under the guidance of their daughter, Jessica, and son-in-law Russell Weaver, the company produces more than 4,000 varieties of lures. In 2024 Blue Candy Lures sold more than 261,000 pieces.
“You will find us at retail stores,” said Russell. “Locally you’ll find us at Yopp Brothers Marine, Sneads Ferry/Nuese Marina, East Coast Sports, Hilltop Grocery, Eastern Outfitters and Sloop Point Marina. The IntraCoastal Angler coming to Hampstead will sell our lures too.”
The X eyeball jig head is one of our most popular items,” said Russell. “It’s good for trout and flounder fishing.”
The 40-year-old company operates out of Camp Davis Industrial Park, with more than 20 employees.
